Our strong reputation for impeccable renovation and conversion projects - often involving structures with considerable heritage - is well deserved. Our developments are characterised by a chic, contemporary re-imagining of interior spaces coupled with sympathetic treatment of exterior features to create a finished product that will simply take your breath away. With stylish finishes and cutting-edge specifications throughout, we plan our homes from the outset to be unique, compelling places that surround their residents with style.
Brothers Jason and Mark Harding established Harding Homes in 1993 out of their passion for renovating, revitalising and transforming older properties so they once again become distinctive places where people love to live. Still very much hands-on today, they head up a team of highly-skilled architects, designers and construction experts, taking a personal interest in every detail involved in their projects - from each stage of planning, through to the carefully selected choices for fixtures and stylish fittings.
We, Harding Homes, choose our projects carefully, knowing where we can make a real difference to a structure and create an exceptional end result. We consistently breathe new life into historic locations, often combining tasteful refurbishment techniques with complementary new build additions to great effect. Two notable examples stand out within Colchester: The Mill on East Street and Charlie Browns near the town centre. A Grade II listed Victorian building positioned directly next to the old main road into Colchester where it crosses the River Colne, The Mill remains an iconic part of the town’s heritage, and a landmark for everyone approaching from the east. The exterior regained its pristine industrial-era appearance as if it was as good as new, augmented by modern entryways and windows that reflected the character of the building. Inside, we created an attractive series of stylish, homely apartments that made the most of their waterside location and proximity to Colchester’s cosmopolitan centre. The reclamation and renovation of Charlie Browns still stands as one of Harding Homes’ finest achievements. The much-loved former hardware store close to the town centre, housed in a 17th-century structure, presented a truly exciting challenge and opportunity to showcase how a thorough restoration and project can be done well. The results exceeded expectations, producing an immaculately-finished property glowing with a fresh, vibrant appearance that stays true to its roots.
Harding Homes' transformational approach results in properties of exceptional quality that cater to modern lifestyles in today's busy world while maintaining a strong affinity with the culture and heritage of the surrounding community. Every project, whether renovating and converting an existing structure or creating new homes, is characterised by innovative design and breath-taking living spaces that create a truly distinctive experience. All materials, surfaces and features contained within the designs are selected for their visual appeal, tactile qualities and impact on every area of the accommodation, while unique feature pieces bring a playful touch of creativity and class to every room. You can guarantee that everything about Harding Homes’ properties will have been meticulously designed with attention paid to the finest details, and The Edge at Abbey Park is no exception.
After completing a number of successful developments and redevelopments in Colchester and the surrounding villages, Harding Homes have amassed a highly impressive track record - something that has not gone unnoticed in industry circles. We were delighted and humbled to receive recent awards from the Civic Trust and Colchester 2020, on top of winning the RIBA award for Best Restoration Project in 2006. In addition, Harding Homes was also recognised with a runners-up position in the National Regeneration Awards for their projects around East Street, including The Mill, Charlie Brown’s and Marriages Yard. Professional recognition is nothing without the help and commitment of a diligent, hard-working team, as well as the delight and satisfaction expressed by people that come to live in these lovingly-recreated properties.
